Chaga: The Ancient Mushroom for Longevity?

With increasing numbers of us living longer, it is no wonder we are all looking for anti aging remedies that will enhance our lives. More of us are active well into old age. Our parents were old at 50 but these days the age 50 is considered relatively young.

It is not surprising that the medicinal mushroom Chaga, is getting a whole lot of attention. Wildcrafted Siberian Chaga, is a fungus that grows on birch trees over 5 to 7 years. It produces a woody growth that draws on nutrients from the entire tree.

Chaga is one of nature's most nutritionally dense foods, containing no less than 215 phytonutrients. It was used over 4000 years by Asians, for its ability to heal and increase the life force.
In 1991, a man was found frozen in ice in the Alps. It was thought that he had been frozen for 4500 years. Interestingly, a pouch of chaga was found on his person.

Asian culture refers to Chaga, as a 'Gift from God,' the 'King of Herbs,' and the 'Mushroom of Immortality'.

It has been used traditionally as a health-promoting tonic, blood purifier, pain reliever, as well as a treatment for skin ailments, and gastric complaints. It has also been used to heal wounds and prevent infections.

The famous Russian writer, Alexander Solzhenitsyn in his novel 'The Cancer Ward,' published in 1968, mentions the important role Chaga played in his remission from cancer.

Of the 215 known nutrients in chaga, some of the most important are: SOD (Super Oxide Dismutase)-a superior antioxidant that keeps cell membranes supple and healthy; Beta Glucans / Polysaccharides-a class of carbohydrates that stimulates the body's defense mechanisms, found to have anti-tumor, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties - includes the 8 polysaccharides that are needed for cells to communicate with each other; Betulinic Acid-a powerful immune enhancer with anti-tumor, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-malarial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Much still remains to be discovered about this ancient herb. There are various types of Chaga. It is generally agreed that Siberian Chaga is the most effective type as it has had to endure very extreme weather conditions that somehow make it a more powerful remedy.

You might want to try this wonderful mushroom for a few months and see what happens. It may surprise you! The anecdotal evidence is that it gives the body exactly what it needs to heal and youth itself.
